Summary Description:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Electrician (Night Shift) is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment across a fast-paced production facility. The role includes scheduled, unscheduled, and preventive maintenance on power distribution, motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, conveyor systems, lighting, and instrumentation to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations during the night shift.
Essential Job Functions:
•
Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while in warehouse or production areas.
•
Comply with food quality and food safety standards established by corporate, customers, and/or governing bodies (e.g., SQF).
•
Perform electrical maintenance, preventive maintenance, and line changeovers on production equipment and support systems.
•
Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components and systems including motors, motor starters, VFDs, PLC inputs/outputs, sensors, relays, contactors, HMIs, and industrial lighting.
•
Read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment manuals; update documentation after changes.
•
Diagnose equipment malfunctions using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (megger), and other test instruments; verify proper grounding and bonding.
•
Safely lockout/tagout (LOTO) equipment and verify zero-energy states before servicing.
•
Perform wiring, conduit bending, cable tray installation, and terminations to code; maintain panel cleanliness and wire labeling standards.
•
Support PLC program changes and device commissioning in coordination with controls engineers; verify signals and device mapping.
•
Maintain accurate work orders, parts usage records, and shift handoff notes; communicate effectively with production during downtime.
•
Assist in training other maintenance personnel; collaborate across teams to resolve issues quickly and drive continuous improvement.
• Respond to after-hours calls during the night shift as scheduled and support critical
equipment restarts.
Required Skills:
• Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local
codes; strong understanding of electrical safety practices.
• Proficiency with PLCs (basic I/O diagnostics), VFD configuration, motor control
circuits, and instrumentation calibration.
• Ability to read, understand, and work with machinery blueprints, electrical
schematics, and parts manuals.
• Experience with GMPs and food safety requirements within manufacturing preferred.
• Skilled with measurement tools and test equipment (e.g., multimeter, clamp meter,
megger, infrared thermometer).
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills; able to work independently
during night shift.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely (e.g., knockout sets, benders, torque
wrenches) and follow LOTO procedures.
• Basic understanding of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and device
communication is a plus.
• Forklift certification may be required; ability to operate scissor/boom lifts for elevated
electrical work.

selection, and LOTO.
• Technical Acumen: Diagnoses complex electrical and mechanical issues; identifies
trends using data.
• Communication: Clear shift-to-shift handoffs and timely escalation during equipment
downtime.
• Customer Focus: Partners with production to meet targets and quality standards.
• Initiative: Works under own supervision, thinks through problems to resolution, and
documents changes.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical trade school or apprenticeship in
industrial/commercial electricity preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of industrial maintenance or electrician experience in
manufacturing preferred.
• Valid journeyman or master electrician license is a plus (not required, depending on
site).
Working Conditions:
• Work Schedule: Night shift position; weekdays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Work Environment: Fast-paced production plant with numerous moving parts.
Hearing protection may be required; temperatures can be very hot and/or relatively
cold. The environment is structured and supervised.
