We are now hiring a Data Center Field Technician – Fiber Team who is hands-on, dependable, and committed to quality and safety.
Data Center Field Technician – Fiber Team
Salary: Starting at $25–$32/hour
Shift: Day Shift (hours based on project schedule)
Location: Round Rock, TX
Direct Hire with Full Benefits
- Hands-on fiber installation, splicing, and testing
- Work under supervisor direction on data center fiber projects
- Ensure installations meet quality, safety, and documentation standards
Key Responsibilities
- Install and align data cabinets, racks, and Optical Distribution Frames (ODFs) per engineering drawings and project requirements
- Install and label pathway systems including basket trays, ladder racks, cable managers, and waterfalls
- Pull, route, dress, secure, port, and label fiber and patch cords in racks, cabinets, and panels
- Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multimode fiber, including fiber preparation, cleaning, and protection
- Install and manage fibers in splice trays, patch panels, and enclosures to industry standards
- Test and certify fiber links using OTDR, OLTS, power meters, VFLs, and inspection scopes
- Document test results, splice records, and fiber assignments as directed
- Assist with troubleshooting, repairs, and corrective actions
- Follow TIA/EIA, FOA, NEC, OSHA, and client quality and safety standards
Qualifications
- High School diploma required (Associate degree or technical school preferred)
- FOA CFOT/CFOS and/or BICSI Technician certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- 1–3 years of hands-on fiber installation, splicing, and testing experience
- Proficiency with fusion splicers and standard fiber prep tools
- Familiarity with OTDRs, OLTS, power meters, VFLs, and inspection scopes
- Ability to read and follow network drawings, splice schematics, and rack elevations
- OSHA 10 required (OSHA 30 preferred)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in active data center and construction environments
