Machine Operator – Job Description

Job Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating manufacturing equipment, maintaining production flow, and supporting quality and sanitation standards on the production line. This role works closely with multiple departments to ensure products are produced efficiently and meet all quality and safety requirements.

Essential Job Functions

Safety & Compliance

Follow all health and safety policies and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in production or warehouse areas (e.g., hairnets/beard nets, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard‑toe and slip‑resistant shoes, safety gloves, seatbelts when operating forklifts).
Maintain compliance with food quality and food safety standards as required by internal guidelines, customers, and governing bodies (e.g., SQF).

Production Operations

Read, understand, and follow the production manufacturing schedule; communicate any issues or deviations promptly.
Maintain production flow by monitoring upstream and downstream processes, supplying raw materials, and performing minor equipment servicing as needed.
Follow all Quality Assurance and Production standard operating procedures.
Perform equipment changeovers accurately, using both imperial and metric measurements.
Record required information for production and quality documentation, including accurate downtime reporting.

Maintenance & Sanitation

Perform equipment and general sanitation tasks in assigned work areas.
Conduct minor machine maintenance when needed.
Support overall plant cleanliness and sanitation as directed by leadership.

Cross‑Functional Support

Work collaboratively with other departments to enhance product quality, improve efficiencies, and reduce waste.
Identify production or equipment issues using visual and auditory cues.
Participate in cross‑training, inventory management, and training of others as assigned.

Other Duties

Complete additional tasks assigned by leadership, which may include general labor, plant sanitation, or other operational responsibilities.
