Batching Technician– Job Description
Job Summary
The Batching/Blending Technician is responsible for accurately preparing product batches, maintaining ingredient quality, and ensuring all blending processes meet safety and regulatory standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to food safety guidelines, and the ability to operate batching and blending equipment in a fast‑paced production environment.
Essential Job Functions
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in production and warehouse areas (e.g., hairnets/beard nets, safety glasses, hearing protection, slip‑resistant and hard‑toe shoes, gloves, seatbelts when using forklifts).
- Comply with all applicable food safety and regulatory requirements, including FDA, HACCP, allergen control, Kosher, and other governing standards.
- Adhere to internal food quality and food safety expectations.
Batching & Blending Operations
- Train and become certified in the operation of all batching/blending equipment within assigned areas.
- Ensure product quality and integrity by following specifications, formulas, and customer requirements.
- Verify all ingredients against system data, food safety standards, and inventory guidelines prior to batching.
- Transport ingredients and pre‑weighed materials using a forklift as needed.
- Program and operate bulk ingredient delivery systems.
- Follow batching/blending sheets, add ingredients accurately, and record measurements precisely.
- Obtain blend tank samples and deliver them to the quality lab for testing; make adjustments as directed by the quality department.
- Complete all required documentation and submit to appropriate departments for review.
Sanitation & Maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized batching/blending area throughout the shift.
- Perform scheduled CIP (Clean‑In‑Place) and COP (Clean‑Out‑of‑Place) sanitation procedures on equipment, tanks, and lines.
- Remove empty containers, barrels, and bins to designated storage or disposal areas.
- Receive and unload bulk ingredient tankers when required.
- Report any safety concerns, food safety non‑compliance, or product issues to management immediately.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a high‑speed food or beverage production environment preferred.
- Training in SAP, HACCP, GMPs, hygiene standards, or related programs preferred.
- Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Strong basic math skills, including measurements and formulas.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills (English).
- Understanding of production schedules and basic laboratory testing processes.
- Ability to support quality improvement efforts, increase efficiencies, and reduce waste.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
